what's cooking...

What's cooking for this gloomy Labor day weekend... Castle and I made some cheese bread and he seared the blackened salmon to perfection. Spicy tasty fish. My housemates made refreshing delicious gazpacho topped with avocado and cilantro. They also steamed the mussels with some really great flavours.

hummus

A great healthy meal to get in West Philly, Hummus, middle Eastern food. Castle and I were heading to see an out door concert in West Philly, and needed to grab something quick to eat. Hummus was just the place, we got the beets salad which was wonderful and refreshing, along with the hummus and chicken sandwiches.

Korean Soft Tofu

There aren't any great Korean restaurant in the city. So it's a treat to enjoy a good Korean soft tofu dinner at Jong Ka Jib Soft Tofu Restaurant, just north of the city. O so tasty! If I have a car, I will go there often.

Peach Picking

It's the lovely season of peaches. Castle and I went to the orchards and did some picking and lots of munching. Quite an enjoyable afternoon picking peaches straight off the trees and taking sweet bites.

what's cooking...

I love fish, and the other day, I bought red snapper and porgy fish for the grilling. I rubbed the fish with oil and garlic and lemon, seasoned them with salt. Simple. Then Dr. Castle did the grilling. It was a great meal, and I am definitely going to do more fish grilling.

Homemade Kimchee

My housemate created these beautiful vibrant color jars of fermenting cabbages, Kimchee. I really like the flavours, although they are too spicy for me to handle.

what's cooking...

I bought a pound of dried figs, and is too much to eat them on their own, therefore I decided to use them in a dish. I made pan seared trout topped with figs vinaigrette sauce and walnuts. The figs are quite sweet, good to have them with rice and steamed vegetables.

The Industry

Dr. Castle and I are quite excited that a new food place opened in my neighborhood, the INDUSTRY. He is hoping for a nice bar and I am looking for good eats. We tried it out the other day. Dr. Castle was really happy with the beer selection, one of his favorite was on tap, Ale Smith. He ordered the burger, which was tasty and a nice basic burger. As for me, I just want to snack on many, so I had the pork nuggets and veggie fritters. The veggie fritters were disappointing, nothing special just fried balls. However, the pork nuggets were really quite good; very juicy inside and nicely crusted. The flavor was wonderful. For dessert I had the berry shortcake, was a nice one for the hot summer, quite lovely. I will definitely go back and try some of their other dishes, plus the place is so close by.

My Basil plant has been growing very nicely, and I have been putting them in pasta and salads and pizza. This time I made pesto mixed with couscous as a bed for pan seared chicken.

Into the water-can

Just want to show off how cute my Mochi is!

Strawberry Rhubarb Pie

Another wonderful pie by Dr. Castle. I had never tasted rhubarb before, so this is my first time having strawberry rhubarb pie. It is delicious! I love how tart and sour rhubarb is, which makes perfect pie filling. Dr. Castle also hand wiped up some cream to top the pie with. He is no doubt the king of pies.

Another Year

Dr. Castle, knowing my dislike for birthday cakes, asked what I would rather have. I said fruit tart...and I got one! Dr. Castle's beautiful fruit tart is amazing; refreshing, creamy custard, great crust, soooo yummy! That night we went to happy hour at FARMiCiA with wonderful company. I had a couple of my favourites drinks, and ordered asparagus risotto croquettes for dinner. It's delicious; creamy risotto inside and light crunch outside. Quite Happy.

what's cooking...

Seared wild salmon steak and quick simple salad with a side of homemade chips. I sliced the potatoes as thin as I can, too bad I don't have a mandolin. Then I tossed them in olive oil and baked in high heat. The first batch of chips didn't turned out so well, especially the thicker slices. The second batch came out great, with a little salt and pepper, better than any package chips!

Spanakopita

After the rampage of meat in Texas, Dr. Castle and I just want to feed on greens for a while. Last night we made Spanakopita, my first time using filo dough. It turned out quite good, light fluffy, and really crispy and flaky with the layers.

Gourdough's

Deep into the night, hungry for sweet fried dough. The big fat donuts truck, Gourdough's, can satisfy your sweet craves and can tempt you to gorge in more sweet grease. They have a great selections of donuts toppings, and their donuts are over the top decadent. They also open late night; perfect for anyone who doesn't care about their waist line and just want to indulge themselves and have sweet dreams afterwards. Well, we enjoyed to excess and humour ourselves with these wonderful donuts for two nights straight. Funky Monkey is my favourite, we also had the Dirty Berry, Son of a Peach, Black Out, and Razzle Dazzle.

Louie Mueller Barbecue

Best brisket I ever had! Louie Mueller's meats are wonderfully moist and glistening with fat! The pork spare rib and the baby back ribs were also lips smacking good, tasted excellent. Their beef ribs were sold out by the time we got there, and didn't get the chance to try them... although my belly already expanded to the max with tasty meat. We ended this indulgent meal with gooey peach cobbler topped with ice-cream. Yum!

El Chilito

Enjoyed the sunny hot days with big crunch chips and salsa, tasty breakfast burritos at El Chilito in Austin.

Happy Camping

Camping was grand with a great board game(Puerto Rico), some meat, air-conditioned cabin, and most of all wonderful company.

Houston BBQ

Just came back from a wonderful gluttonous trip to the South. We begun the trip with some delicious ribs and brisket from Gatlins BBQ when we drove by Houston towards camping. It was great start for a meaty journey and very satisfying. The meat just fell off the bones and melted in my mouth, barely need chewing.  The peach cobbler was pretty good too, gooey, sweet and warm.
